In the second of our three-part series, we are talking with Sean, the creator of several popular military themed accounts on Instagram.

After joining the British military in 2003, Sean was quickly deployed to Iraq where he had his first glimpse of Snipers in action. This encounter led to his decision to join their ranks and after qualifying as a Sniper a few years later he returned to serve a third tour of duty in Iraq. Sean ultimately completed four tours of duty there followed by four more tours in Afghanistan.

Following ten years of back to back deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, he has spent the years between 2014-2020 traveling around the world conducting training for similar Sniper units in Africa, Europe, North America and the Middle East.

We asked Sean about some of the challenges he faced rising to the top of his profession. He said “the Sniper Course has been the hardest course I have undertaken. There are seven badge tests that must be passed to qualify as a Sniper. Of the twelve people who started my Sniper Course, only three of us passed the tests. The Second hardest course has been my Close Quarter Battle Instructor training as the margins for error in the kill house cause a lot of people to fail.”

One of the other challenges Sean notes from his 17 years of service is dealing with equipment not up to the task. This is one of the reasons he is so passionate about using social media to educate his audience concerning the best products and companies serving the military.

As an active user of our HEL-STAR 5 EXO® and HEL-STAR 6® helmet mounted lights for training and on live ranges he is convinced of their efficacy as both a personnel and location marker. Sean says:

“CORE’s HEL-STAR® lights are robust and waterproof making them ideal for my use on Live Ranges and Quad Bike training”.

Sean believes in taking massive action in order to accomplish his short and long-term goals. He is committed to developing tactical training and support for shooters in the Long-Range elements, as well as improving on Close Quarter Battle training for the Short-Range.

On top of this he is dedicated to supporting veterans and providing insight to his followers on social media into the real world of a trained military professional and the equipment they depend upon.

Fortunately, Sean does take some time to wind-down and relax both indoors and outdoors. He enjoys PC gaming, climbing the mountains of the Scottish Highlands and hitting the water on his kayak.
